This year, John Paul directed his thoughts to continuing conflicts around the globe. But he stressed that to bring about peace, there needs to be a new respect for international law and the creation of a "new international order" based on the goals of the United Nations.

A North Country newspaper publisher won't start the new year behind bars after all.
June Maxam Of Chestertown is the publisher of the North Country Gazette. Three years ago she was convicted of harassing her neighbors and sentenced to nine and half months in jail. She immediately filed an appeal and served just 17 days.

Since that time, Maxam said she's uncovered some legal technicalities in the system. She said that eight judges, a county sheriff, and a prosecutor all failed to take their oaths in the appropriate time span required by law. Maxam wants them removed from their positions.

For more information, see the New York TRT website.
