Couch Potato Consumers Do Not Murder the State
I fear we will have to become more like the Iraqis—impoverished, under direct threat of violence, able to discern clearly the danger and face it with determination—before confronting, let alone murdering in self defense, the mass state. As it now stands, we are several magnitudes removed from doing what needs to be done.
It will be infinitely more difficult with “biometric ID cards courtesy of the REAL ID Act” and other spooky technologies of fascist control waiting in the wings.
It will be difficult, very difficult, to get out from under this leviathan and I am seriously skeptical if the American people will rise to meet the challenge (instead of rising to change the cable channel).
Massive economic privation, on the other hand, may serve as a motivating force. And that, Virginia, is exactly where this nation is headed. [Kurt Nimo]
